Why Our Comprehensive Health Check Is a Different Kind of Digital Audit

Because business, media, and your digital ecosystem will always be rooted in human interaction and experience, you need people-powered research.

The Painful Reality for Marketers

You’re reading this because you can relate to any or all of these grim realities in an unforgiving and demanding landscape:

  • You have to justify every marketing dollar.
  • Your bosses want growth without risk.
  • Your team is already burnt out or rapidly getting there.
  • Everywhere, there are claims of a “shortcut,” a new idea, or a better idea.
  • You don’t know what’s actually working.
  • You, not AI, might get fired.

Whether you’re new to the role or have been living this reality for years, excitement drains quickly. Why bang your head against these obstacles over and over again?

There must be a way to gain clarity, vision, focus, and results.

The Noise

You’re not short on offers.

“Growth hacks.”

“Triple qualified leads.” (You know the emails I’m talking about.)

“FREE analysis.”

“5 easy steps.”

“Powered by AI.”

The sales tactics are seemingly endless.

What’s different about the tactic in front of you right now is that we give you:

  1. a timeline
  2. meaningful data (not all of it, just what counts)
  3. mutuality between audience goals and your goals
  4. where to commit time and money (leave everything else behind)
  5. a specific path forward attached to key performance indicators

Not Just Another Digital Audit

There are countless boasts of “free,” “quick,” and “easy” audits of a brand’s digital ecosystem. It’s simple. It won’t cost you anything, or maybe 5 minutes… maybe.

For little or nothing, the audit will increase your brand awareness, your post engagement, and even your sales pipeline.

If that’s too much effort, there are templates and DIY analysis. I’m talking about a series of steps, like a how-to, where you punch in your social profiles, your website, and the date range you want to analyze, and boom—everything turns around!

Turn your pressure and frustration into digital success that will make you the hero of your organization!

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Yes. Yes, it is.

That’s because digital communication (web, email, search, AI, organic, paid) is not an exact science. It’s not formulaic. There are best practices, but think about what we’re dealing with… human psychology, social behavior, and media, for crying out loud—some of the most subjective things on the planet.

Some things are easy: blending in, throwing content into the void, wasting resources, sounding fancy, etc.

But real value and connection with a person (not just a customer) are never going to be easy.

What Many Digital Audits Are Missing

Many content scheduling tools, growth agencies, and social listening software offer audits. They are supposed to make your life easier.

Now, I love tools. We use a lot of tools at YLD, like HeyOrca, NotebookLM, Supermetrics, and RivalIQ. These, and many others like them, are indispensable to sorting through heaps of information and making sense of what’s happening, along with allowing teams to collaborate on content creation and community management.

But these digital audits are limited to giving you a basic picture. If you never look at data or how your content performs, an audit like this might be eye-opening.

But I don’t know of anyone in marketing who never looks at data. Data is everywhere, and the vast majority of today’s marketers have performance metrics in their DNA. They aren’t flying blind… at least, not completely.

A typical digital audit, at best, will tell marketers what they already know or make them feel a bit better. At worst, it will be a waste of time.

But it was free and easy, so no harm. No, I take issue with that.

The sales engines reposition the audits every year. Now they are AI-powered, more sophisticated, stretch further back, include more channels, come with a competitor SWOT analysis, and even create action plans for you.

Maybe a controversial take, but they’re still a waste of time.

It might give the most generic of plans, but it’s still all on you. It might give you a sampling that leaves you a bit more informed, but you’re still at square one.

The typical content audit, template, or “guide” doesn’t give you access to the full suite of tools or, more importantly, to experienced researchers and strategists.

Our Health Check Is Powered by People

How can agencies offer something so “powerful” for nothing? Because it’s not that powerful. And it costs them very little. It’s a sales tactic to get you into their system so you can buy more.

To be fair, YLD offers our Health Check so that we can offer follow-up services, too, but that’s where the similarity ends.

Other agencies have the robots do all the work. Their tools sweep through content and platforms and produce charts, percentage changes, and even an observation or two.

But insights, nuances, and real-world experience are absent.

Free audits are good for selling you something. Our audit tells you the truth—even when it’s uncomfortable.

Because business, media, and your digital ecosystem will always be rooted in human interaction and experience, you need people.

Our audit, known as the Health Check, collects the data, presents it, and then adds layer upon layer of rich, human-powered insights. We don’t just restate the data (an observation); we interpret what the data means (an insight).

Our research team spends hours separating the useful data from the useless and matching data to what we know about human behavior on various platforms. We think through the tough questions, read between the lines, and come up with priorities and a plan to connect your flesh-and-blood audience to your flesh-and-blood goals.

Our Health Check is not free, simple, or easy. It’s a lot of work. Our strategists and researchers pour a lot of time, up to 100 hours, into understanding and delivering a concrete opportunity for you.

You simply can’t create shortcuts to success. You can’t templatize relationship building with audiences, creating mutuality between your audience’s needs and your organizational goals, and improving their lives as well as your own bottom line.

Let’s collaborate on a digital audit that actually improves what you do next.
