Through smart SEO, AIO, social media content, and advertising, CAPP-USA has built a Digital Cathedral and is evangelizing the world with Catholic social teaching.

If you thought only dioceses and parishes could build Digital Cathedrals, think again.

The entire Catholic world needs Digital Cathedrals. Non-profits, schools, universities, initiatives, and even Catholic for-profit businesses.

What Is a Digital Cathedral?

For the Catholic world, a Digital Cathedral is an online ecosystem, including web, social, email, apps, etc., that strengthens its core base of believers while simultaneously attracting new people to in-person communion with each other and Christ.

ATTENTION! Digital beginnings resulting in-person relationships. The real-world impact is the true measure of success.

We’re NOT talking about a literal building made of pixels in Minecraft, Roblox, or the metaverse. These will not replace real-life cathedrals. They will fill them.

These are tapestries of meaningful content where vice meets virtue, pain meets healing, and secularization meets evangelization.

So far in 2026, we have highlighted dioceses and parishes, but it’s time we branch out and highlight other examples in the Catholic world.

And today, that means CAPP-USA.

How Is CAPP-USA Building a Digital Cathedral?

The Website

CAPP-USA is the American arm of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Fondazione, founded by St. John Paul II and based in the Vatican. It’s a lay organization that reports directly to the Pope. Its mission is to spread the knowledge and practice of Catholic social teaching.

Not an easy task. CST is dense, abstract, steeped in principles, and written in the language of the Church, which is not exactly street lingo.

Yet somehow, CAPP-USA has made nearly a century and a half of encyclicals and apostolic exhortations, indeed the entire corpus of modern Catholic social teaching, accessible, applying it to everyday economic, political, and social issues so that average Catholics can take their faith to the next level.

So, how did they do it?

They built a Digital Cathedral.

The site is a beautiful blend of photography, magisterial quotes, and pragmatic explanation.

Few can understand the challenge of visualizing principles like subsidiarity or themes like the common good. But CAPP finds photography that brings to life not only abstract things such as the universal destination of goods, but visceral debates like abortion.

The Results?

Immense success!

CAPP-USA’s website sees tens of thousands of organic users every month.  The site topped 30,000 total users just last month (July) when including advertising.

This has grown over the past three years on the back of optimized page and article content. Careful research identifies keywords with high volume and low difficulty. CAPP then overlays CST onto those keywords, and the quality of the piece does the rest.

Combined with metadata, proper schemas, summaries for both humans and AI, and backlinks from credible organizations, search and AI engines alike place CAPP at the top of thousands of searches.

The summer of 2026 has been a particularly breakout season for the dissemination of the Church’s greatest secret.

You will find the Church and the zeitgeist on the site, such as democratic socialism, AI, immigration, pornography, homosexuality, and transgenderism. Much of the site is highly engaged across search, direct, email, and other referral traffic.

But CAPP’s Digital Cathedral goes far beyond the juicier headlines. Its summaries of Rerum Novarum, Dilexi Te, and analysis of Pope Leo XIV’s teachings, as well as many other magisterial documents, have earned huge numbers.

And the fruits of the effort are not limited to digital metrics. Its annual CUA course is full every year, and CAPP’s work is showing up at state Catholic conferences, seminaries, and parishes, forming and helping Catholic leadership apply CST to the intersection of faith and life.

Social Media

CAPP’s social media presence is also promoting the Church’s social doctrine.

The foundation is on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and Substack, where its presentation of CST boils complex topics down to simple overviews, reflections, and calls to action.

Content cuts through left and right politics and helps Catholics discern what’s truly important and how to participate in society.

Storytelling takes on many forms that suit the best practices of platforms, such as short hooks on X, lengthy stories with provocative questions and timely topics geared toward professionals on LinkedIn and younger generations on Instagram

But CAPP doesn’t just rely on the written word. Just as photography and video are deployed on the website, Shorts and Reels publish regularly since social algorithms favor short video and to help visual learners internalize the teaching.

The Results?

A video recapping an article on antisemitism went viral on Facebook.

A YouTube Short on whether Christ endorses socialism earned over 41,000 views.

A series of LinkedIn posts on socialism earned hundreds of clicks, comments, and reactions.

CAPP has not shied away from advertising to evangelize. On the contrary, it has leaned into it. Crisp graphics asking questions that challenge current thinking across a spectrum of social issues invite users to click through to a deeper reflection and the answer to the crisis.

Ads drive thousands of young people from Instagram, older users from Facebook, X users looking for intellectual stimulation on hot topics, and serve through Google Search as well.

CAPP also maintains a Google Ad Grant that regularly spends near the $10,000 monthly limit, driving seeking audiences to the website.

Why Are We Calling CAPP-USA a Digital Cathedral?

It’s worth repeating that Digital Cathedrals are not reserved to Church institutions. They are for all the Catholic world to build. In order to fulfill their purpose of evangelizing a broken world, they must stand out.

They must earn attention and trust. That takes effort and time. It takes thoughtful and entertaining content.

But does CAPP-USA’s presence online really meet the criteria of valuable, beautiful, and purposeful?

Absolutely.

It’s valuable because CST addresses the ills of our culture. So many of these issues, including inflation, just wages, family, marriage, or who to vote for, have profound impacts on our quality of life and the choices we make.

It’s beautiful because the imagery, stories, and and words employed are human—the stuff of the heart. It uplifts the spirit.

Finally, it’s purposeful because Catholic social teaching dwells among the mundane problems of our lives, but points us to heavenly things. What greater purpose is there?

A Digital Cathedral stands out online. It’s relatable and aspirational. It is easy to walk into and simultaneously calls us to more.

CAPP-USA’s Key Performance Indicators

The three KPIs of a Digital Cathedral are invitation, innovation, and participation.

  1. Invitational: CAPP’s content consistently calls us to rethink our approach to these misguided societal and personal attitudes and act differently at home, in business, and in politics.
  2. Innovative: CAPP experiments across channels, using various formats, and launching new endeavors, from a Google Grant to Instagram Reels to Substack blogs, in order to reach the right people.
  3. Participatory: More American Catholics know and practice Catholic social teaching because of what CAPP-USA is doing. That is tremendous ROI.

Why Is Building a Digital Cathedral Important?

Digital Cathedrals begin online and end offline.

We are not interested in vanity metrics. Billions of impressions, likes, even shares, and leads mean nothing without real life being positively impacted.

The Digital Cathedral, intentionally crafted, is hard to miss. It not only draws awareness, but it draws people in, as the medieval cathedrals of old did.

They must be built with the same care, skill, and attention to detail.

It refutes the world’s emphasis on addictive scrolling and moneymaking and cultivates in-person relationships by using the tools where touchpoints happen.

Across the Catholic world, organizations and businesses need to put audience first and keep it that way. Think from the perspective of what is obstructing value, beauty, and purpose in someone’s life, and what do I offer to remove that obstacle so that audiences can reach worthwhile goals.

“Renew your commitment to nourish Christian hope in social networks and online spaces.” (Pope Leo XIV, Address to Social Media Influencers)
